Beneficent Congregational Church, Providence, Rhode Island has a three manual Hook and Hastings (1923), and a gallery division made up of a small Roosevelt organ (1885). The Roosevelt was originally in the churches parish hall. In the 60’s the Roosevelt was brought into the main church, tonal changes were made, and a new console was installed.
At Beneficent, we refined the Great Principal Chorus to bring out the upperwork. Two ranks were returned to their original pitches, and regulation was performed throughout. No new pipes were added, and conservative, historically informed voicing techniques were employed so as not to modify the organ’s original character. Just by making these minor changes and regulation, the organ now as a much more coherent and balanced sound.
